Kids Wagons Quick Tips

1. Toy wagons are a hit with children of all ages-physical ages and historical. At Mohenjo-Daro in Pakistan, where one of the first urban settlements was built about 4,600 years ago, archaeologists have discovered ancient toy carts made from terracotta.

2. Kids wagons were also known to the civilization of ancient Greece. The philosopher Aristotle (384 B.C. to 322 B.C.) compared the movements of animals to “the little cart… the child riding in it pushes it straight forward, and yet it moves in a circle because it has wheels of unequal size.”

3. The kids wagon was a common farm toy in 19th century America. These early toy wagons were commonly made from wood, and modeled after farm wagons and settlers' wagons.

4. Radio Flyer kids wagons were the first to be made using metal-stamping techniques. Antonio Pasin, an Italian immigrant who had started out making wooden toy wagons in 1917, was inspired to use steel from his observations of Ford's mass-produced automobiles.

5. The Radio Flyer kids wagon remains one of the most popular children's wagons today. Our selection of Radio Flyer wagons includes the classic red wagon that has been a favorite American toy for over 70 years.

6. A children's wagon is a fun toy, but it can also have practical, non-recreational uses. A wagon is great for taking long or short walks with the family, day-long outings to parks and beaches, or carrying dirt or potted plants in the garden.

7. With wheels in motion, a toy wagon can be almost anything: a pickup truck, a plane, a train, or even a spaceship. A wagon can unleash a child's imagination or help him or her to act like mom and dad: kids love carrying, loading, and unloading toys.

8. The ease of sharing and playing together is another benefit of kids toy wagons. Older kids enjoy being in charge and pulling their younger siblings around-plus there's no better toy for sandcastle projects.

9. If the safety of younger children is a concern, look for kids wagons with extra features such as removable sidewalls, seat belts, and padded seats. Canopies are also recommended for summer play, when children could use a little extra protection from sunburn.

10. Children's wagons are sometimes used for indoor toy display, where they make a creative-and portable-home for stuffed animals. A fold under handle is recommended if you plan to store your kids wagon indoors.
